Help your learners stay on track by adding due dates to lesson pages, assignments, and activities in your course.
What this covers
Setting due dates on individual items in Course Content
Using session/cohort-specific due dates (e.g., “Fall 2025 Cohort”)
Using relative due dates (e.g., “10 days after course start”)
Verifying what students will see
Note: An item must be gradable to expose due-date options. If it isn’t naturally graded, you can enable Track completion under Grading to make due dates available.
Who can do this
Course Creators or Instructors with edit access to the course
Before you begin (optional but recommended)
If you’re planning a multi‑week course, it helps to map due dates in a spreadsheet first. List each lesson/item and the planned date or offset (e.g., “Lesson 1 Reflection → 10 days after course start”). This makes staggered schedules straightforward to implement.
Option A: Set due dates for a specific session/cohort
Use this when your course runs multiple times (e.g., Fall and Spring cohorts) and you need different calendars per run.
Open your course and go to Course Content.
Find the item you want to date (e.g., Goal Setting page) and click Edit.
In the right‑hand panel, open Grading.
Ensure the item is gradable (toggle Track completion if needed).
In the Due date area, choose the Session/Cohort (e.g., Fall 2025 Cohort).
Set the due date and Save.
What students see: When that session is active, enrolled learners will see the due date beside the item in their course view.
Option B: Use relative due dates (no session/cohort)
Use this when you’re not associating the course with a session, or you prefer offsets from the course start date.
Open your course and go to Course Content.
Edit the item you want to date.
In Grading, enable Track completion (if the item isn’t already gradable).
In Due date, choose an offset such as 10 days after course start (you can also use weeks or months).
Save.
Tip: Stagger items by setting increasing offsets (e.g., 10, 17, 24 days) for a clear weekly cadence.
Verify from the learner view
Previewing helps confirm that dates appear where you expect.
From your course, select Preview.
Expand the relevant section in the outline.
Confirm the due date is visible beside the item—this matches what students will see.
Troubleshooting
I don’t see due date fields. Make sure the item is gradable. Turn on Track completion under Grading if needed.
I can’t pick a session/cohort. Your course may not have sessions configured.. Use relative due dates instead, or contact your admin to add the session.
Dates look wrong in Preview. Double‑check that you edited the correct item and session and that you saved your changes. If using offsets, confirm your course start date is correct.
Best practices
Plan first: Draft due dates in a spreadsheet, then implement them in Proserva.
Be consistent: Use a simple cadence (e.g., all reflections due Fridays) to reduce confusion.
Communicate changes: If you adjust dates mid-course, notify learners so they can adapt.
FAQs
Do I have to grade the item?
You don’t need a score, but the item must be gradable to expose due dates. Enabling Track completion is sufficient.
Can I set different due dates for different sessions?
Yes. Select each session/cohort and assign its own date.
Can I mix session-based and relative due dates?
Pick the method that fits your course structure. Session-based dates are ideal for discrete cohorts; relative dates are best when you use a single rolling course start.
